Cricket has stolen all the attention I used to get on my b’day.Last year it was final of the world cup and this yr it is the ODI at Pak . No complains though. B’days now rather scare me but growing old has its own pleasure especially when one has lil ones at home, growing up as well.
I was surprised to see my daughter playing Hopscotch one day.Lil gals look really cute while hopping on a pattern of squares marked on the ground.Surprised coz I thot that this game is lost somewhere between Barbies ,computer games and TV etc .I too had played this game a lot. Years back…, I used to hop with my eyes closed, after every step I’d ask my friend “Am I right?”….”Am I right?”Now I remember dad often used to repeat ‘ am I right; while cuddling me and my brother and making us laugh.Parenthood has so many pleasures including living one’s life all over again.

ReplyDeleteMmmmm...nice , cute , sort of sentimental post...u had me all warm and feeling nice... and thats quite an effort ( esp since i made almost every one squirm with my own story The Fall ) ... hopscotch reminded me of the seven stones game called 'pitthoo'... its completely lost i think now...i mean, hv hardly any one seen playing it now... these days boys prefer the WWF ( if not on tv then in the game , or worse, practising on their brothers and friends) and Sony's Playstation seems to be the real 'in' thing...apart from my sis' boys i hv seen it in a few other homes also...keep writing more often...ur posts are so homely and kind and genial...i think , they reflect ur personality as well... warm and motherly and kind and loving....

Actually, ever since i hv come here, that stupid movie GHARWALI BAHARWALI has stuck to my mind like a sticky chewing gum on the hair, and its song just keeps playing in my head on and on ( though i clearly abhor it , but sometimes these repulsive songs just stay on)

mehak here.....senti post...these days i hardly c kids playing...they r so engrossed with comp..tv..moreover i've seen Class I kids goin for tuitions....i remember mere bachpan mein i used to play for atleast 2 hours a day....was sooo much fun...ghar ghar...cycling...clubs...

What do v call hopscotch in hindi. Is it the same game where we divide a long rectangle into 7 parts, 2 of them bifurcated. and kids make some teee-tee sound

Hopscotch has different names in diff indian languages.
It is also called 'Staapu' as Neets has mentioned in her comment.
We called it "Ikhat Dukhat" :-)

ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with you... the games like pithhoo are totaly lost these days.... the first time i saw it was in Hum dil de chuke sanam... and didn't make head or tail of it.... then my mom told me this was a game they used to play.... gone are the days when children used to climb trees and play in parks.... these days its all about violent video games, and TV and internet....
